Seniors on the Go! - Senior Van Project

Seniors on the Go

The City of Marina Recreation and Cultural Services Department runs the community seniors program. This program has become a lifeline for seniors around the Marina community to interact, learn, exercise and recreate with others within their peer group.  This in turn keeps them vital and involved.

An important aspect of the program is transportation to various venues both locally and regionally. Currently the City rents ADA (Americans with Disability Act) vans to accommodate some seniors on these trips. As a result, various excursions are limited by van availability and budgets.

It is the desire of The Marina Foundation to change this dynamic and work with our community to raise the funds for a new ADA van for the seniors' program. While such a van can and will be used for other Recreation programs, the seniors will have priority for its use. The van will help our seniors maintain an active schedule of local and regional shopping, and educational and recreational activities that help make the program a success.

The properly outfitted ADA compliant van costs approximately $35-40,000. As a result, our goal is to raise these funds and donate them to the City of Marina for the exclusive purpose of purchasing an ADA van.
