Scholarship for Learning for Life Charter School
Learning for Life Charter
School is proud to announce this $1,000 scholarship to seniors who are
graduating with a high school diploma in 2012 and who are enrolling in a college
or university.

In 2011, the Foundation is
granting $500 to each school in Marina to be used for School Assemblies.

PBIS Program at Marina High School
-
In 2010, the Foundation
provided a matching grant to Marina High School for their Positive
Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Program.

The City of Marina Sculpture
Garden Project:
The Marina Public Art Ad Hoc Subcommittee
was established by the Recreation and Cultural Services Commission to
relocate eight sculptures formerly located at The Sculpture Habitat at
the Marina Municipal Airport, and to re-establish a public arts venue
named “The City of Marina Sculpture Garden” (TCOMSG). The lower park
area of Vince DiMaggio Park has been accepted by the City of Marina as
the permanent location for “TCOMSG”.

Marina International Festival of the Winds:
The
celebration of the wind continues for its 13th year over Mother’s Day
Weekend, for one day only, Saturday May 12th, 2012, with free admission and lots of wind-related
activities and fun for the whole family. See:

Marina Skate Team:
As
the Junior Olympic Gold Medal State Champions
and the California State Champions for the 2010 California Amateur Skate
League National Skate Federation State Championships, the
City of Marina/On The
Beach/Drawn Skate Team
advanced to the National
Championships on August 6, 2011 in San Diego and won gold. The
team is now the
2011 State Games of America National Junior Olympic Skateboarding
Champions. The team has disbanded in order to pursue
personal goals.

Marina Friday Night Live Program
The Marina Friday Night Live program was locally developed by the
Recreation and Cultural Services Department to meet a specific need in
our teen community. The
Program, now in its second year, is dedicated to teaching and promoting
leadership skills as well as healthy life styles as part of youth
development.

Senior
Programs:
Seniors
on the Go! Senior Van Project -
The City of Marina
Recreation and Cultural Services Department provides much needed senior
programs for the Marina community including renting an ADA (Americans
with Disability Act) van to take seniors to various venues both locally
and regionally. It is the desire of The Marina Foundation to raise and
donate funds to purchase an ADA compliant van to help seniors maintain
an active schedule of local and regional shopping, and educational and
recreational activities that will continue to help make the program a
success.

The
Marina Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration:
The ceremony
is an annual family evening of caroling around Marina’s living Christmas
Tree, with musical entertainment, fresh cookies, hot apple cider, and a
special appearance from Santa!

Marina Community
Non-Profit Summit:
“Common Threads and Synergies” is the topic of the second Marina
Non-Profit Summit, hosted by The Marina Foundation on February 29th,
2012 from 5-7p.m. at the Marina Library Community Room. The purpose
of the workshop is to review the programs and projects currently in
place by the Foundation and local non-profits, and to seek input on
the types of programs and activities the community would like to see
implemented now and in the future. All Marina non-profit
organizations are encouraged to send a representative to this
summit.
