The Captain Gordon R. Nakagawa Scholarship For

The Captain Gordon R. Nakagawa Scholarship for Learning for Life Charter School provides a $1000 scholarship to seniors who are graduating with a high school diploma.  This $1,000 Scholarship will be paid to the recipient’s college or university after the recipient enrolls. Five-hundred dollars ($500) will be paid for the first semester enrollment and the second five-hundred ($500) will be paid to the college or university upon the recipient’s enrollment for the second semester. None of the scholarship monies will be paid directly to the recipient.


The Scholarship Requirements are:

 §  student must be a Learning for Life Charter School graduating senior,

§  student must have  passed both of the California High School Exit Examinations (CAHSEEs)

§  student must be graduating with a diploma, from Learning for Life Charter School (LFLCS)

§  student must have a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) minimum


Application Requirements:  The following items must be in the application packet and submitted to Learning for Life’s Executive Director no later than April 30:

 § complete a scholarship application (available at Learning for Life School)

§  student must create a type-written essay (500 word minimum– 600 word maximum) about either one of the following topics:

o   “How I Demonstrate Patriotism to the United States of America

o   “How I Serve My Community”

§  a letter of recommendation from a Learning for Life employee

§  current high school transcript

Donations may be made either directly to The Marina Foundation and specified for the Captain Gordon R. Nakagawa Scholarship, or directly to Learning for Life Charter School with a notation on the check that it is for the Capt. Nakagawa Scholarship.
