The Marina Friday Night Live (FNL) Program is locally
developed by the Recreation and Cultural Services Department to meet the
needs of our teen community.
It is a youth development program designed for intensive one-on-one
mentoring of participants. At
its core this program is dedicated to promoting healthy life styles
while promoting leadership.
The program focuses on building life skills for personal growth and healthy choices, conflict resolution, improving communication, and improving interpersonal relationships with friends and adults. Mentoring builds youth/adult partnerships to provide a sounding board for the teen and guidance from the adult while participating in programs rich in opportunities and support. Part of the adult commitment is to expose the teens to new experiences and opportunities. Part of the youth commitment is to volunteer in community projects/special events. Teens are selected by their Marina High School, Learning for Life School, and Los Arboles Middle School administrators. Through this program young people will be less likely to engage in deviant behaviors and more likely to succeed in school, graduate from high school, and attend higher education or secure a full-time job. In the second year of this two year program the teens are asked to become a mentor themselves to younger teens. Friday Night Live Special Programs - 2010
